I’m just in the middle of painting three illustrations for a forthcoming Osprey book on the Rabaul campaign. Here’s the first depicting an RNZAF P-40 about to collide with a Japanese Zero during a combat on 17 December 1943. The painting is based upon the Japanese pilot’s account and shows the P-40 as being the one flown by F/O J O McFarlane, (who was lost in this combat), although it’s difficult to be 100% certain that it was his aircraft involved.
The 22″ x 15″ original painting on artboard is now for sale, please click on the image for more details.
