A Long Way From Home Original

Handley Page Halifaxes of 424 (Tiger) Squadron RCAF, set out for a long, cold night over Germany during the winter of 1944.

This is the original painting that Mark featured on his Instagram page from start to finish. Followers were invited to suggest the subject aircraft, and after over 100 suggestions, Mark went with the Handley Page Halifax.

The painting is a symbolic scene of an old Yorkshire shepherd watching these young Canadians boys going off to war. Both the Canadians and the shepherd are a long way from home in their own way, hence the title. I chose MZ813 QB-B for it's Bambi nose art, which emphasised how young these airmen were.

The painting will be supplied rolled in a tube ready for restretching, as sending stretched is too risky with modern postal systems!
